Sayeed's Educational Background

For many of you folks who grew up in North America, some of the names of the degrees in the following list would appear to be weired. The explanation behind the strange names of the degrees is the fact that I grew up, and received my eariler education in Bangladesh, a small but beautiful country in South Asia.

  • Received and accepted a Graduate (Teaching/Research) Assistantship beginning from Fall, 1996, for attending Ph.D. Program in Geology (and eventually Geoscience) at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA 52242.
  • Received and accepted a Graduate (Teaching/Research) Assistantship beginning from Fall, 1992, for attending Master's Program in Geography at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA 52242.
  • Was qualified for the Commonwealth Scholarship to attend Master's and Ph.D. Programs in Geography at the University of Manitoba, Canada, during the session beginning from Fall, 1992.
  • Secured 1st Class and 1st position in B.Sc. (Honors) Final and M.Sc. Final Examinations, Department of Geography, Dhaka University, in 1988 and 1990, respectively.
  • Was awarded the Rizvi Memorial Award from Bangladesh Geographical Society on Sept. 21, 1990, for securing the highest marks in Geography in the B.Sc. (Honors) Final Examination, 1985 (held in 1988).
  • Secured 1st Place in Bangladesh and 3rd Place at the international level in CIRDAP (Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific) Tenth Anniversary International Essay Competition on "Poverty Alleviation through Integrated Rural Development", held during March-July, 1989.
  • Was awarded a Grade A (talent-pool) Merit Scholarship by Dhaka University for performance in B.Sc. (Honors) Final Exam., 1985.
  • Was awarded a Grade A (talent-pool) Merit Scholarship by Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka, for performance in Higher Secondary Certificate (H.S.C.) Exam., 1982.
  • Was awarded a Grade A (talent-pool) Merit Scholarship by Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka, for performance in Secondary School Certificate (S.S.C.) Exam., 1980.
